4th Annual Allotment Society Show 2013

photoThe last weekend in August saw the 4th Annual Silsden Allotment Associations show.

Once again set in a marquee, on the allotment site on Elliott Street, with over 20 different classes to fight for including, veg, fruit, flowers, home made produce, eggs, childrens classes and a plot scarecrow.

Local judges were used to determine the winners, Elaine Ackroyd for the home made produce, Peter Smith for the fruit and veg and Brenda Carey for the Scarecrow class.Mike Carey presented the certificate to the winners.

With over 100 entries the judges found the quality very high and at times stuggled to select a winner and in one class could not separate so had to  award a joint winner.

The show was jointly organised by Cathy Liddle and Barry Thomas but thanks were given to all who had helped on the day with the equipment needed to stage such an event.

John Cobb in his official capacity as allotment Chairman stated the exhibits were such they would grace any much larger show.

The show had grown year on year, the first show with just a few classes but the star of the show was  “The Longest Carrott” competition  officiated by Joe Maiden our local gardening expert and star of the Radio Leeds garrdening slot.

It was agreed by all attending how lucky and fortunate we were not only to have a sunny day but such a beautiful setting to garden in.

Lunch was provided by the exhibitors on a Jacobs-Join format and was more like a banquet than a light lunch.
